Of course! People who wear vintage clothing can represent any type of person in the general population. However, people who wear vintage, either a single piece in an outfit or head-to-toe, usually have an interest in fashion and want to create their own individual style.
Americana Girls Mixing Contemporary Pieces With Vintage
All of us here at AMERICANA have been wearing & collecting vintage clothing long before there was even the term “vintage.” We’ve always had fun hunting for particular items which stood the test of time in style and quality, or which were unique to wear with contemporary items.
Dating an item & allowing that to be the most important determining factor of whether it was acceptable for our wardrobes or not was never the litmus test for our vintage style.

It may look rather plain now, but when AMERICANA moves into this new warehouse, it's going to be awesome!
February 1st will be a big day for AMERICANA, as we move into our awesome new warehouse in Oxelösund Sweden.
AMERICANA‘s vintage online shop…Opening Soon…will be run out of the warehouse, which will house one of the best collections of classic American vintage clothing in Europe.
The people of Oxelösund are wonderful, plus the Baltic Sea is just steps away from the warehouse door!
We’ll let you know from time to time how we’re settling into our new warehouse & how the vintage online shop is coming along.
If you’re in the neighborhood, do stop by and say hello. We’d love to see you!
AMERICANA’s new warehouse address:
The Rocket Room is having their 5 Year Anniversary Big Band Splash this Saturday at Debaser Medis in Stockholm.
There should be all kinds of vintage rockabilly and rock ‘n’ roll sounds, and perhaps a little indie thrown in the mix. Plus, everyone will be decked out in their finest rockabilly clothing, so it’s worth going just to see the vintage clothes fashion parade!
You’ve gotta, gotta, gotta go!
AMERICANA‘s good friends over at Helsinki Vintage have been nominated in the category Best Event for the 2011 Best of Helsinki Awards. The competition is organized by the Helsinki City Tourist & Convention Bureau.
In our opinion, Helsinki Vintage puts on a killer event of vintage clothes, entertainment and exhibitions twice a year in Finland’s capital city and & we think they deserve to win.
Since anyone can vote, let’s all help them out to get the credit they deserve. Click here to register your vote for Helsinki Vintage. For those of you who don’t know Finnish, just click on the big button that says “Äänestä tätä ehdokasta” & then click the next green button that says “Äänestä.“
P.S. AMERICANA will be back to Helsinki Vintage March 6th.
See y’all there!

When writing the latest blog posts for AMERICANA about L.L. Bean & Sticking With The Classics, I was reminded about the Maine Hunting Shoe & how it’s been re-mixed over the years.
Maine Hunting Shoe via L.L. Bean
Since 1912, L.L. Bean has been making the the classic “duck boot” in a variety of styles they have developed over the years. One can say that this humble hunting boot is the backbone of L.L. Bean, both as a brand and a company.
During the last wave of prep/ivy/classic American fashion, shoe designer Manolo Blahnik came out with a version of the Maine Hunting shoe for women, with a stiletto heel and pointed toe in 1978.

For Fall/Winter 2010, Tommy Hilfiger re-worked the Maine Hunting Shoe once again for high fashion, with several twists on the old classic. Hilfiger’s designs delighted some, while horrifying others.

I think that’s what seperates classic American style from fleeting trends. The ability to wear the original, a re-mix or both at the same time, with a nod to the past and the confidence to wear it today and onward toward tomorrow.
Should classic designs be left alone or is it ok to re-mix them for a new look?
Do you think the rugged heritage look is something new for this season? Well, think again!
This article appeared in TIME magazine in 1976 describing how outdoor clothing and traditional work wear became fashionable for the urban set back then:

Again in September 2010, the heritage look was dissected by The Wall Street Journal:
