Can Anyone Wear Vintage Clothing?

Of course! People who wear vintage clothing can represent any type of person in the general population.  However, people who wear vintage, either a single piece in an outfit or head-to-toe, usually have an interest in fashion and want to create their own individual style.

Americana Girls Mixing Vintage With Contemporary Fashion

All of us here at AMERICANA have been wearing & collecting vintage clothing long before there was even the term “vintage.”  We’ve always had fun hunting for particular items which stood the test of time in style and quality, or which were unique to wear with contemporary items.

Dating an item & allowing that to be the most important determining factor of whether it was acceptable for our wardrobes or not was never the litmus test for our vintage style.

  1. You look so very cute in this picture!

  2. I think there is a vintage item to suit everyone. It’s a shame because some people dismiss it as second hand and are missing out on something so wonderful and unique. In my vintage shop I get students looking for a cute preppy look. I get people who are totally hooked on a particular era and wouldn’t dream of venturing into another one. I get gothy types who like the velvet and lace numbers. Such a wide spectrum of people all going for a different aspect of vintage. I also get customers who wouldn’t particularly wear vintage clothing but like to add a touch of uniqueness with a vintage scarf or brooch. So although it’s difficult to market towards a target customer that’s why it’s such a great and varied business to be in.
Best wishes to all at Americana from Helene at Revival in Huddersfield.

  3. Lori: Thanks!
Helene: I completely agree with you on every point. I think vintage is for all kinds of people. Plus, many of the items are shared styles amongst groups. For instance, rockabilly and hip-hop guys wear many similar pieces, with the difference being fit & swagger. I love the creativity & freedom that comes with vintage and I think that’s what makes it so accessible to all. All the best to everyone at Revival & thanks so much for your comment!

  4. Sure, anyone can wear vintage; it’s just a matter of finding one’s style!

    You look great head-to-toe.

Actually, I think it’s easier to find one’s style through experimentation with vintage. And thanks so much for the compliment!
